Joan Plock, Selectman

In the 1970’s Joan Plock was invited to join a group of medical professionals whose task was to develop guidelines to monitor Medicare patients during hospital stays.  She worked in two major hospitals in this capacity; South Nassau Communities Hospital in Rockville Centre and Smithtown General also in New York State. 

In 1975 she and her husband brought their two sons to Connecticut and settled in Ridgefield.  She worked on a number of community projects, became President of the Ridgebury School PTA and joined the Council of PTA’s.  Joan was also involved in the development of Cub Scout Troop #74 in Ridgebury School which later invited boys from Scotland school to take part. 

In 1987 Mrs. Plock ran for and won a seat on the Board of Education and became Chairman in 1989.  During her tenure she supported the efforts of ROSE and successfully fought for the Integrated Pre School for special needs children we enjoy today.  She also chaired the Committee on Programs and Facilities, one of the most comprehensive studies ever undertaken which examined all programs within the school system and the space needed by each.  Joan was Chairman when the Ridgefield Public Schools were first named the number one school system in Connecticut. She served as Chairman for 5 ½ years until she left the Board in 1995.

In 2001 Joan Plock was elected to a seat on the Board of Selectmen which she holds today.  She is the Boards representative on the Ridgebury Cemetery Board of Directors and remains involved with a number of fund raising events for charities. 

Mrs. Plock has also been an active partner and the Treasurer of a Fire Emergency/Preventive Maintenance Consultant business which services more than 50 health facilities in the tri-state area.
