Marriage Licenses/Civil Union Licenses

A Marriage License or Civil Union License is required to be married/united in the Town of Ridgefield.

A Marriage License or Civil Union License must be obtained from the town in which you are getting married/united in or from the town in Connecticut where either party resides, (proof or residency required).

A Marriage License/Civil Union License is valid for 65 days, (the ceremony must take place within 65 days of applying for the license).

Both parties must sign the Marriage License/Civil Union License and take an oath in the presence of the Town Clerk or Assistant Town Clerk.  Both parties must appear in person together or individually.

The cost for the license is $30, additional copies are $10 each.

No appointment is necessary when applying for a Marriage License or Civil Union License.  Applicants should plan on spending about 20 minutes in the Town Clerk's Office.  The Office is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  We ask that applicants try to apply by 4:00 PM.

Applicants must supply the following information:

Date of Marriage/Civil Union, and location

Name, of the person performing the ceremony

Parent's names (mother's maiden name) and place of birth
